Odyssey Chapter 1

A young boy smiles and waves at her.

He looks familiar.

His short brown hair sticks up in all directions. His scuffed trainers are completely out of place next to his black ironed trousers and crisp white shirt.

He looks so familiar.

His beacons her forward before turning and wandering away.
She tries to move forward but her feet are stuck. She raises a hand as if to grab the receding child. She tries to call out but her mouth stays shut.

She murmurs desperately, twisting her lower body in an attempt to get free. Clawing at her bare feet as if it would make them move, tears begin falling down her face.

'Wait,' She begs silently, looking up and after the boy, 'Please...'
He turns around, "Come on!" He laughs, "It's not far now!"

A name pops into her head.  Zephyr.

What does that mean?

He approaches, "I thought you wanted to come?"

The boy looks confused, "What's wrong? You don't need to walk like the rest of us; you never have before. Hurry up! You're going to miss it!"

She tries jumping, begging herself to move, as he walks away, "Just use your wings."

Wings? What... What's a 'wings'?

He turns around and walks backwards, "You know?" he makes flapping gestures with his arms, "Those things on your back?"

She turns her head. If it was possible a gasp would have escaped her lips.
A strap runs over her shoulder and towards a pair of feathered extensions exploding out from her shoulder bones. She flexes her shoulders and the appendages open out.
Her eyes widen at the wings. The dark feathers ruffle slightly in a non-existent breeze.

Her wings automatically begin flapping and lift her from the ground. A piece of paper flutters from her pocket and she bends to pick it up.

'Zephyr'.

She follows the boy towards a gate, brows furrowed in confusion.
